Bear Hunt
So everybody flips out about the Bear and keeps kicking you from their rallies? Let us explain what this is all about.
Why is the Bear so important?

The bear trap is one of the most important sources for Hero Gear Essence Stones which are very expensive. The more damage you do to the bear the more Essence Stones you will receive. Also the event is a great opportunity to learn how rallies in the game work and why you need to pay attention with which heros you join a rally when you are fighting a real enemy.
The Correct Heros
The leading hero you use to join a rally is important because of their first Expedition skill. This skill will be added to the properties of the rally. The important bit here is: only the first skill of your first hero is added to the rally. The other skills of the second and third hero are ignored by the game. The leading hero in your rally will be marked with a little flag when you join the rally:
The problem with joining with a wrong hero is that this heros skill might override a useful skill. If you join for example with Charlie, the rally would get a boost on coal gathering speed. But the bear is not made of coal ;-)
If you start the rally, all skills of all your heros are added to the rally.
You can see this in the details of a rally if you click on the little yellow flag:
First you will see the applied percentages to the different values of the troops. They are added to all troops in the rally. The values depend on the heros you choose as rally leader and your chief gear:

If you scroll down you see the rally skills that apply. You want to make sure that you have only skills added by your members that raise the damage or attack values of your rally:
The correct heros to use if you join a rally are:
Jessie
Jessie increases the damage all troops in a rally deal by 25% in the highest level.
Jasser
Jasser increases the damage all troops in a rally deal by 25% in the highest level.
Seo-yoon
Seo-yoon increases the attack value of all troops in a rally by 25% which raises the damage dealt. This is not as good as Jasser or Jessie but still a good damage boost you do not want to miss.
Jeronimo
Jeronimo increases the damage all troops in a rally deal by 25% in the highest level. In the picture the skill is locked because I do not have Jeronimo. If you have Jeronimo you should use him to start a rally.
Flint
Flints skill gives a 20% probability to deal additional damage to the bear:
Greg
Greg's skill adds a 20% chance to raise the damage of all troops in the rally by 40%.

Mia
Mia's skill can raise the damage taken by the bear by 50%. Considering this has a 50% chance to happen it is mathematically the same as a 25% raise in damage.

Logan
Logan grants troops a chance for extra damage.

Heros to start a rally with
By now you should see that we try to raise the percentages added to the damage of the rallies as high as possible.
Heros do this in three ways. First the base values of your heros which are determined by their level and their star rating. The base values of the heros rise with each new generation and they become stronger.

The second way is the Hero Gear:

The third way are the skills that I already described extensively above. Remember: When you start a rally all Expedition skills of your heros are added to stats of the rally. So for your rally you want to take the heros with the best base values and the most skills that raise the attack and damage values. For mythic (golden) heros you must also consider the level of the special gear they have as this adds another Expedition skill.
Hero Gear
If you are the leader of the rally the values of your hero gear are added to the percentage values of the whole rally. This means that you want to equip the heros you use to start a rally with your best hero gear.
If you join a rally the values of the hero gear only count for your army. You should outfit the heros you use as leaders to join rally with good hero gear as well. The other heros get whatever gear you have left.
Troop Formations
The right troop formation can maximize your damage in the bear hunt. The main problem to solve is that you might not have enough troops to send out a lot of marches with this formation. If you have little troops, use the formation on your strongest march you send preferrably to a whale.
There are two formations we tried and achieved good results with:
Infantry | Lancer | Marskman |
---|---|---|
12 | 44 | 44 |
12 | 19 | 69 |
Shoutouts to State 199 for the last formation.
